BEN YAN

Ben Yan is a graduate of the UW Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering department, where he spent 2 years designing launch controls for rockets and plastic/resin composite materials. His team competed and won the overall championship at the international Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition with their 30,000ft Nitrous Oxide/Paraffin Wax Hybrid Rocket. He currently works as a Tech Consultant.

My name is Kristin. I am a rising Freshman going to UW Seattle Fall of 2020. I earned my High School Diploma at Inglemoor High School and an Associates Degree in Biology at Cascadia College. During my time in college, I have taken many biology courses including cell, animal and plant biology. For the past two years, I have also worked in the field of Genetics and Proteomics (laboratory) research. I have experience tutoring both elementary school students and college students in biology, chemistry, mathematics, English/reading comprehension, and public speaking. Outside of school, I enjoy practicing taekwondo and going hiking with friends.

KEIRA WONG

Keira Wong is an upcoming sophomore at International School and has had experience with Python since 6th grade. She has had exposure to teaching and coding since she has mentored for FLL (First Lego League) and is a part of the software sub-team for her robotics team (Titan Robotics Club) in FTC (First Tech Challenge) and FRC (First Robotics Competition). Currently, she is learning Java and C# since she wants to learn more coding languages and, in the future, use her knowledge to help people. From previous years, she has taken coding classes at DigiPen, iD Tech, Bellevue College, and at UT Austin. She has also participated in the Girls of AI Hackathon and her team placed third place along with being able to enter the big competition called AI for Good. Besides coding, Keira also enjoys playing video games and making videos for YouTube!

My name is Lara and I am a rising senior at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore. I am currently in the Running Start program and am working on earning an Associates in Science alongside my high school diploma. Being an officer of my school’s Science Olympiad and Honor Society, I have had the opportunity to tutor elementary and middle schoolers alike in chemistry, math and computer science. Outside of school, I intern in Southlake Union at the Institute for Systems Biology. I am also the leader of the Global Goals Outreach project at the Pathway Foundation Internship.

My name is Jared Hu and I am a rising senior at Interlake High School in Bellevue. I am a candidate for the IB diploma program and a 4.0 student. From mentoring elementary school kids with programming through the school robotics team outreach to being the president of my high school’s Science National Honor Society, I have passion and experiences working with kids of all ages and inspiring STEM interests. Outside of school, I am a trustworthy and reliable Eagle Scout and the Chairman of the Pathway Foundation, the Student-centered non-profit organization that had brought this completely free summer learning experience to the community in hope of inspiring that no student gets left behind due to lack of learning opportunities and other hardships.

I am a rising senior from Interlake High School in the Gifted IB Program. I have a deep interest in business, and have sharpened my skills in business both inside and outside of school. In school, I have taken the higher level business management class in the IB program and attend various clubs specializing in business. In the DECA club, I have placed 1st place at area, 3rd place at state, and finalist in testing score at the international competition. Just recently, I was in a team competition for entrepreneurship where our startup idea placed top 11 at nationals. Currently, I am also a marketing intern at the UW CoMotion Labs start up Bond Intelligence where I create marketing strategies and work on web design.

GLORIA SHEN

Hi! I'm Gloria Shen and I'm a rising senior at Inglemoor High School pursuing an IB Diploma. In terms of mentoring and teaching experience, I have worked with all levels of students through running my own music program, being the Vice-President of my school's healthcare club, and tutoring my former middle school's Science Olympiad team. Alongside this, I also currently intern for the UW in conducting a meta-analysis on racial disparities and intern for a STEM Environmental science camp in the summer. I have taken 2 years of college-prep level courses in Chemistry, Biology, and Math and 1 year of college-prep Physics. I can't wait to work with you and your students this summer!
